Offerings for Youth 2009 - 20010
World Religions and Neighboring Faiths for 7th and 8th graders
Participants begin to have some self-direction by choosing and exploring the major world religions they want to learn more about, and helping to plan field trips to various places of worship or related sites. Connections between Unitarian Universalism and other faiths are explored; religious diversity is appreciated; and personal values and beliefs become better understood.
Coming of Age Program for 9th and 10th graders
The Coming of Age program is designed to encourage and facilitate the contemplation and articulation of one's personal beliefs. Both independently and as a group, participants explore various aspects of religion and spirituality, including Unitarian Universalism, from individual as well as member-of-community viewpoints. Volunteer adult mentors from the congregation work with them in this process. The culminating Coming of Age worship service is held in the late spring.
Older youth– 11th and 12th grades– are invited to take part in the congregation in a variety of ways. They are most welcome to work with the younger children in RE, join in on social action and service projects, attend and take part in regular worship services. For organizing an older youth activity such as movies nights, book discussions, attending district events, and so on, see Jeanette Ruyle, DRE. To “sign the book” and become a member of the congregation, see Rev. McKetchnie.
